Services for Young People (SfYP) is the licensed organisation (LO) for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) in Hertfordshire. This licence allows schools, learning establishments and youth projects to deliver DofE programmes to young people under our licence, supported by the SfYP DofE Team.
The SfYP DofE Team supports almost 90 schools and centres to deliver DofE to over 7,000 participants, with over 4,000 participants completing their DofE award every year.
The support we provide to DofE centres
The SfYP DofE Team provides:
- Expert advice and guidance at every stage
- Termly Development Plan meetings providing expert coaching
- Access to DofE Coordinator mentors
- Access to a wide range of HCC volunteers to support your delivery and expeditions
- Expedition training for your staff, including:
Hertfordshire Expedition Skills Course (HEST) certification
Lowland Leader training
Hill and Moorland Leader training
Outdoor First Aid training - Monthly newsletter with information about upcoming training courses, volunteering opportunities, Gold residentials and more
- Termly virtual DofE (eDofE) training, Coordinator Forums, and Verifier Surgeries
- Support with eDofE 50 weeks a year
- Support to access DofE funding
- Quality assurance certification
- Verification, certificates and badges sent to your centre
- An assessor directory to access external assessors

DofE access-funding for SEND schools
SEND schools which sign up to become new DofE centres with us before 31 October 2025 can apply for Participation Places to support their students to access the DofE Award for no cost (places are usually £38.50 per person) and the cost of the licence (usually £60) will be only £15. We can also support you to apply for up to £4,500 to purchase reusable equipment to help support your students to complete their DofE activities.

The social value of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Hertfordshire
Between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2025 young people doing their DofE Award under the Services for Young People licence spent 143,585 hours volunteering in their communities. The social value of these hours is an amazing £918,874.
